Broad areas of need (as set out in the SEND Code of Practice)

At MPS, we recognise that a pupil has SEND where they experience barriers to learning which impacts on their progress and attainment. In order to meet their special educational needs, provision would be different from and additional to the universal offer which we refer to as Targeted Support. This enables them to overcome barriers and access the curriculum. 

The 4 broad areas of need, which can sometimes overlap, are: 

• cognition and learning 

• communication and interaction 
• social, emotional and mental health 
• sensory and or physical need
