Nursery Admissions
Nursery Admissions
At Marlborough Primary School, we welcome new pupils into our Nursery throughout the year. We offer three intakes each year, September, January and April. This begins the term after your child turns 3. We provide high quality education and childcare in a caring, supportive learning environment.
We are a 40 place term time only Nursery based within our primary school. We provide a smooth and nurturing transition to school life.
The Nursery is staffed by one class teacher, one Early Years Educator, one trainee Early Years Educator and one partner teacher.
We use the following criteria to allocate places to 3 and 4 year olds.
- Priority is given to pupils who attended our Marlborough Day Care .
- Looked After Children* by a Local Authority.
- Children of a permanent member of Marlborough Primary School staff.
- Sibling(s) of pupils who currently attend Marlborough Primary School.

Funding Options for a 3 and 4 Year Old in our Nursery:
Option A
30 Hour Free Childcare for 3-4 Year Olds (Option A)
To accept the nursery place using Option A you will need to check whether you are eligible for the government funding for ‘30 hours of free childcare’. You can apply to HMRC for the 30 hour offer from when your child is 2 years and 36 weeks old. However, your code is only valid at the start of the term after your child turns 3 years old. Example: if your child is born between 01/04 and 31/08 your code will be valid from the Autumn Term (September).
For your child to access five full time days over the week, we ask that you spend your 30-hour childcare allocation with us and pay £420 per term ((Rising to £440 from April 2026) to access the full week. The full week comprises of 32 hours 30 minutes at school. There are three terms per school year. The termly fee can be paid in instalments.
To be eligible you will need to meet the requirements set out on the HMRC website, you can check and apply here: https://gov.uk/30-hours-free-childcare
If you are eligible for the 30-hour offer, you will receive an 11-digit code which you will need to provide to the school before your child starts, together with your National Insurance Number. You must have a valid code by the end of the month before a new term begins or you will need to move to a fee paying place: see below.
During your child’s year in the nursery you will have to reconfirm your eligibility by logging into your HMRC childcare account every 3 months and the school will check this termly whilst your child remains in our nursery. If you apply for your code more than 3 months before the term starts, you will have to reconfirm your eligibility in your account in order to keep your code valid. If you become ineligible to the 30 hour offer or if you do not reconfirm your eligibility in time for the start of a new term your funding option will change to a fee-paying place (Option B).
Option B
15 Hours Free Childcare for 3-4 Year Olds (Option B)
If you are not entitled to the '30 hours of childcare' offer but are entitled to the ’15 hours of childcare’ offer, your child can still attend full time, but this will be based on a fee playing place. The charge for a fee-paying place is £1995 per term (Rising to £2095 from April 2026) which includes a daily school meal and a snack. This enables your child to access the core day in our nursery. (If you require an extended day then you may book before and after school care services that operate and are run by our school.)
The termly fee can be paid in instalments by formal agreement with the school.
Funding Options for a Rising 3 Year Old in our Nursery:
Option C
15 Hour Free Childcare for Rising 3 Year Olds (Option C)
Your child can start with us in a rising-3 place if you are eligible to the 2-year-old offer. We accept 2-year olds starting in the term that they are turning 3 years old. The place is a part-time place (attendance each morning only) for the first term of attendance.
To be able to take up 15 hours of early education for your two-year-old you must meet the eligibility criteria. Please visit https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/ for further information.
However, if you are in receipt of one or more of the following benefits, you may be entitled to a Busy2s ticket issued by the Kensington and Chelsea Local Authority or Westminster City Council:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Universal Credit - if you and your partner have a combined income from work of less than £15,400 a year after tax
- Tax credits and you have an annual income of under £16,190 before tax
- The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
- Support through part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act
- The Working Tax Credit 4-week run on (the payment you get when you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
If you are eligible, a Busy2s ticket will be posted to you, addressed to the child. The Busy 2’s ticket will tell you the term in which your child is eligible to start.
Hours will be offered and allocated by the school and agreed with you prior to your child starting with us.
Option D
30 Hours Childcare for Rising 3 Year Olds (Option D)
You could choose to pay fees for your child’s rising-3 place and there are three potential options of attendance/fees. You can include your preferred selection on acceptance of an offer;
D. Full-time attendance for the whole term (once settled in the nursery). The charge is £3870 (Rising to £4062 from April 2026) for this pattern of attendance or £2295 (Rising to £2409 from April 2026) if you are eligible to government funding.
The termly fee can be paid in instalments.
If you will be using Childcare Vouchers or the Tax-Free Scheme towards the payment of fees, please contact Ainsley Smith in the school office at the time of invoicing.
Parents of children attending the Nursery class at a school must reapply for a Reception place. As in all state schools there is no automatic transfer from the Nursery class to the Reception class.
